01 Survive Need breath. Need drink. Need protection. Need energy. Want nothing. Don't want. Don't wish. Don't hope. Don't wait. Capitalize. Go forward. Go and go. Go crazy. Carry on. Have hunger. Have thirst. Have itching. Have pain. Nothing to say no to. Nothing to abandon. Nothing to reject. Nothing to lose. 02 Drag of Hate Does your brain swim When you start to think Wanna jump on out Or break the tank Do your guts crawl inside your skin Does your heart knock on death's front gate Or stay clocked in Until it breaks Does your soul cough does it feel restricted Took a drag of hate Got addicted 03 Smile Do you see my smile It's ok Everything is fine You can see my smile That means that we're happy Do you see my smile Pretend that it's painted That's how it stays It's painted on Dripping wet paint

"Do You See My Smile? is a 3-track flexi from this Los Angeles group featuring members of Rolex and Grimly Forming. Like those bands, Broken Vessels’ foundation is in 80s hardcore, but their vibe is different. While Rolex is all about irreverence and Grimly Forming trades in menace, Broken Vessels reminds me of 80s midwest hardcore bands who played fast but still had some pop / 77 punk melody and song structure. Everything Falls Apart-era Husker Du is a solid reference point. Like Husker Du (at least on that record), the tempos are fast, the playing is passionate yet precise, and the guitars steal the show with a sound that’s dense, moody, and melodic. The label’s description also mentions Paganicons-era Saccharine Trust, and I can hear that too, particularly on the title track. Those of you weaned on the intense but ambitious early SST catalog have a new band to check out!" - Sorry State Records
